Becoming an AI Consulting Architect: What Is "Value Proposition" & "Business Impact" Differences

Understanding the First Principles - One you can add up. The other is what actually gets funded.

Most AI PoCs don't fail on accuracy. They fail in the meeting where someone asks "what's this worth?" — and gets one answer when the room needed two.

Value proposition asks: what does this cost, and what does it save? Cost savings and operational improvements. You calculate it.

Business impact asks: what changes for the organization? Revenue, risk, strategy. You assess it.

Calculate versus assess. That's the whole difference — and most frameworks blur it by filing business impact inside the value discussion, as if strategic value were another line on the cost sheet. It isn't. Cost per transaction is something you measure. Strategic value is something you argue. Mixing them costs you credibility in front of a CFO.

In my latest post I walk a real healthcare PoC through both answers, show which role owns which, and land on a rule of thumb worth stealing for your next steering committee.

~3 minute read. Forward it to whoever is writing your next PoC business case.
